Types of Treatment
Your lymphatic system plays a large role in your immune function and circulation. If your lymphatic system is compromised, the body will have to work much harder to circulate fluid.
What is Lymphedema?
When the lymphatic vessels are unable to circulate fluids, swelling and fluid buildup occur, which is called lymphedema. This most commonly occurs when lymph nodes are damaged or removed as part of cancer treatment. This is when lymphedema treatment may be required. Although there is no cure for Lymphedema, the condition can be managed to reduce discomfort.
What kinds of Lymphedema diagnoses can lymphedema therapy treat?
- Primary Lymphedema happens on its own, not caused by another condition or injury.
- Secondary Lymphedema often occurs in people who’ve had a surgery during which their lymph nodes were damaged or removed.
What is Lymphedema Treatment?
Your Certified Lymphedema Therapist may utilize various techniques including manual lymph drainage and therapeutic exercises. Additionally, he may recommend the use of compression garments along with other applicable lymphedema treatments.

Here’s what some of our patients had to say
When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, I knew very little about it. I had read about and seen people who could not control the shaking in their hands and or legs. I did not expect the loss of my speaking skills. The loss has negatively affected my life more than any other condition I…
My assessment, treatment and customer service experience has been stellar! How observant, thorough and professional Aneesh, DPT was with me… wow. Tara, the PTA did a good job also and the atmosphere was so comfortable. At first I didn’t think I would like being in a large room exercising with others watching. It didn’t take…
Thank you again for your support and professional assistance. Beyond improvement in my voice quality, I also have a much-improved view of myself and my ability to communicate which may actually be worth more than the vocal adjustments.
“To Jennifer Gelb, My breathing’s good, I talk out loud, Of this, you can be proud. For you’re the one who got ‘er done, And made it so much fun. Jennifer, thanks for your encouragement, patience, and great smile!”
Without the help of each of my physical therapists I would not have achieved the goals I wanted to reach. Each one had a different method or tidbit of information that contributed to the success of my physical therapy.
Thank you for your patience, encouragement, dedication, and kindness shown to me during my rehab. Three months ago I came into Lake Centre for Rehab in a wheelchair unable to walk and today I walked in! My husband and I are forever grateful!
I have met many athletic trainers and physical therapist professionals in my 40 year athletic career however I have never met anyone with such a knowledgeable experience level, compassion, and interest to help others as Brett.
I was a patient at Lake Centre for Rehab prior to my left total knee replacement and following the surgery as well. The care and therapy that I was given at Highland Lakes was outstanding!
When I began, I had all the typical Parkinson’s symptoms. My voice was weak, I walked with a shuffle, I sat hunched over, and had trouble getting out of a chair. After four times a week and four weeks of hard work, those symptoms have been left in the dust.
After just 4 visits…I feel like a brand new person. Before, I could barely walk for 15 minutes without my back screaming in pain. Now I’m zooming through therapy and going on walks at home.
