Timothy: Using PT to combat Parkinsons

When I was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease, I knew very little about it. I had read about and seen people who could not control the shaking in their hands and/or legs. I did not expect the loss of my speaking skills. This loss has negatively affected my life more than any other condition I have encountered in my 73 years. I have always been a social person, however, my inability to communicate and be understood made me start to withdraw from my normal activities.

In talking with my neurologist, he suggested speech therapy. I decided to give it a try, but I was skeptical of any real improvement. I met with my speech pathologist Natalie Slatton at Lake Rehab for an evaluation, after which, I decided to give it a try. I am almost done with the LSVT language therapy and have been able to resume the social activities I enjoy. I have been receiving positive feedback from my neighbors and friends. I’ve had my close friends tell me that before they could not understand what I was trying to say, but now they can. I recommend Natalie Slatton and the LSVT program.

Natalie, thanks for giving me back my social life!
